- By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News A Terre Haute man accused of possessing hundreds of child pornography photos on his computer pleaded guilty today after an agreement was reached in court. Last year, Michael A. Perkins, 50, was arrested and charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography, a Level 5 felony. He was booked into the Vigo County Jail Nov. 20, 2018. Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt stated in a press release that these types of cases are often difficult, noting the hard work of Terre Haute Police Department detectives from beginning to end. Modesitt said his office will continue to bring those violating young children to justice. “We will continue to pursue these cases and, when the law allows, seek prison time for these offenders,” he said. Chief Deputy Prosecutor Rob Roberts explained that Perkins entered guilty pleas to five counts of possession of child pornography with an agreement that his sentence would not be more than 15 years. The State argued that Perkins should be sentenced to a 15- year executed sentence in prison at today's hearing in Div. 1 Superior Court. The defense attorney argued for a sentence of three years or less, all suspended to probation, according to the report. "After hearing arguments, Judge John Roach found that an aggravated sentence was appropriate and sentenced Perkins to three years on each count, all to run consecutive, for a total sentence of 15 years. The Judge suspended the 15 -year sentence and ordered the defendant to be placed on probation for 15 years," the press release explains. Comments are closed.
