CORRECTION: ICN reported in error that alcohol was a factor in a fatal crash Saturday. Police believe the driver, Daniel D. English, was under the influence of THC and Benzodiazepines, not alcohol, as ICN previously reported.
--- A weekend crash fatality has been investigated as a homicide from the beginning, Terre Haute Police Department Chief Shawn Keen said this morning regarding a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 57-year-old man Saturday. Officials allege THC and Benzodiazepines factored in the southside accident. "On yesterday’s date [Monday,] detectives executed search warrants on both vehicles for the purpose of extracting recorded data relevant to the investigation," he said, explaining the driver of the suspect vehicle, a black 2010 GMC, is Daniel D. English, 62, of Terre Haute. The victim, Michael Burns, of Terre Haute, was pronounced dead at the hospital Saturday after police allege English crashed into Burns' vehicle at the intersection of South 25th Street and Margaret Avenue. While English’s critical condition as a patient in a local hospital has not changed, Keen said probable cause was found for his arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death. "Book-in processing and initial court appearance are contingent on his medical release, " Keen said. -- See related story Comments are closed.
