A Terre Haute man was arrested over the weekend following a police investigation into a shooting after the suspect -- also the alleged shooting victim -- had sought medical treatment for the gunshot wound at a local hospital last week.
Terre Haute Police officers arrested Robert H. Doss, 27, Saturday morning. He was booked into the Vigo County Jail, where he remains held on the following charges: Theft of a firearm -- level 6 felony; obstruction of justice -- level 6 felony; carrying a handgun without a license as a convicted felon; and carrying a handgun without a license -- class A misdeameanor Doss reportedly told THPD officers that he had been shot at while walking in the 12 Points area the morning of Oct. 17. However, investigation revealed that Doss, a convicted felon, had allegedly stolen a gun from an aquantance's vehicle. According to THPD Sgt. Denzil Lewis, Doss had unintentially shot himself with that gun he had allegedly stolen just hours before.
"Doss told officers that he did not know who shot him, but that he had not shot himself," Lewis said.
Doss was taken into custody after release from the hospital Oct. 22. Doss is currently held in the Vigo County Jail on $25,000 bond. Comments are closed.
