Indiana Central News The Terre Haute Police Department asked the community to avoid the area around S. Center and Hulman Streets Wednesday night, as they worked to apprehend an armed man in the area. After more than three hours at the scene, a THPD spokesman reported that the situation was ultimately resolved, and without injury. The 31-year-old man was taken to a local facility to undergo mental health treatment. The incident began when officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of South Center Street regarding a male that had been involved in an altercation with another individual around 6 p.m. The allegedly suicidal suspect fled into a nearby residence. He told officers to kill him, according to the THPD. The Special Response Team was ultimately activated and began to communicate with the man, asking him to surrender. Just before 10 p.m., the suspect came out of the house and was taken into police custody. Comments are closed.
