Terre Haute Police Department Assistant Chief Shawn Keen confirmed that a shooting on the south side of the city and an ongoing northside standoff are related -- stating tonight that one victim did not survive, while the other suffered serious injuries from the gunshot wounds.
"That shooting has resulted in the death of one person and serious injury to another. The suspect has fired multiple rounds at officers and we ask that people stay clear of the area, " Keen said. The long night for local law enforfcement continues after two victims were shot at a residence at 2124 Putnam Street around 4:15 p.m., leading to a lengthy standoff continuing well past 9:30 p.m. The standoff with the shooting suspect at the 2214 Second Avenue residence is ongoing at this time, nearing a five-hour mark. Multiple gunshots were heard fired at the scene through out the evening. Area residents were ordered to stay inside and traffic for several blocks was closed off to traffic. Several agencies are assisting at the scene, including West Terre Haute Police, Indiana State Police, Indiana State University Police and the Vigo County Prosecutor's Office.
