Indiana Central News What began as a well-being check soon turned into a 2-hour standoff, when additional Terre Haute Police Department officers were dispatched to the city's north side on reports of gunshots fired this afternoon. Just after 12:30 p.m, the Special Response Team arrived at the apartment complex located at the intersection of N. 15th and Locust Streets. The standoff ended peacefully, at about 3:30 p.m. Officers brought a man out of the building in handcuffs and placed him in a patrol car. Chief John Plasse explained the man was not being charged with anything at this time and was being transported to a local mental health facility for an evaluation. He noted that no weapons were found in the residence. "We wanted to err on the side of caution and not rush things, make sure everyone was OK. We tried to make contact with him, and that wasn't working," Plasse said. Comments are closed.
