Police responded to a frantic 911 call last night for an unresponsive man suffering from an apparent heroin overdose on the floor of a southside gas station. After reviving the victim, the officers took the the victim's friend into custody.
The victim, 35, reportedly became semi-conscious and more coherent immediately after a prepared Indiana State Police trooper retrieved a dose of Narcan for a Vigo County Sheriff's deputy to administer the possibly life-saving drug to the man. The man was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment a short time later. The victim's friend was arrested at the scene. Tamara C. Bryan, 38, of Terre Haute, was booked into the Vigo County Jail at about 7 p.m. on charges of possession of schedule I substance, possession of paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a syringe, and public administration false informing. "[Bryan]was found to be in possession of approximately one gram of heroin and various hypodermic needles and during the event, gave false statements to the officers, ISP Sgt. Joe Watts explained.
According to the report, Vigo County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Sweeney was first on the scene at the convenience store at 4501 South Seventh St. and noticed the male was cyanotic and not breathing. He began CPR as Trooper Brad Fyfe arrived.
"The officers believed the victim’s unresponsiveness was caused by possible heroin drug use as “track marks” were noticed on the victim. Trooper Fyfe quickly retrieved his ISP issued Narcan from his commission and the Nasal Narcan was applied into the victim’s nostrils by Deputy Chris Sweeney." Watts said. Comments are closed.
