An Indiana State Police trooper suffered minor injuries when a semi-truck began to jack knife on an icy Interstate 70 in Vigo County last night.
"Both the driver and co-driver of the semi-tractor trailer, from Mississauga, Ontario, were transported to the hospital with non-life threating injuries. Sr. Trooper Tim Rader was wearing his seatbelt and received only minor cuts and bruises," ISP Master Trooper Matt Ames explained. Investigation revealed the semi was traveling too fast for the road conditions and that speed was a contributing factor in the accident. According to the report, Rader was working a previous accident involving a semi-tractor trailer that ran off the roadway in the westbound lanes near the 13 mile marker just after 8:30 p.m. The westbound semi-tractor trailer driver reportedly tried to apply brakes to his 2019 Freightliner when he noticed the troopers lights activated on the road. However, because of snow and ice covered roads, the driver lost control and the semi-tractor trailer began to jack-knife. The semi struck the driver's side of the police car, causing extensive damage. Riley Fire Department, Trans Care and INDOT assisted at the scene. Comments are closed.
