Indiana Central News The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a young child after emergency crews rushed the 9-year-old to the hospital early yesterday morning -- in cardiac arrest. Four suspects were arrested in connection to the death today. According to the report, emergency crews responded to a call regarding the cardiac arrest just before 4 a.m., outside of the town of Fontanet in northern Vigo County. The child, Cameron R. Hoopingarner, was discovered at the scene and then transported to Union Hospital in cardiac arrest and was later pronounced deceased, according to a press release from the VCSO tonight. Officials say the child, diagnosed with cerebral palsy, was emaciated --- weighing just 15 pounds. The VCSO criminal investigation alleges that the child's guardians were negligent in his care and an arrest and search warrant were executed at around 5 p.m. tonight at the residence located at11321 E. Lewsader Avenue. The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team assisted the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office while arresting the following individuals. Their charges are also listed below each name.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and and no further details regarding the death will be disclosed at this stage of the investigation, Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing said.
