The Vigo County Sheriff's Office and Terre Haute City Police Department are working together to make Interstate 70 safer for everyone on the road by increased patrols.
They will be not only be intensifying speed patrols, but will also be on the lookout for aggressive and dangerous drivers during the "Obey the Sign or Pay the Fine" operation. Sheriff John Plasse explains that the goal is to save lives by reducing unsafe driving and serious crashes on the interstate. “Our stretch of interstate has seen its fair share of deadly accidents” Plasse stated in a press release. “Many of these have been from driver inattention or aggressive driving behaviors. Officers began the overtime traffic enforcement on the weekend and will continue the effort for two weeks, with funding made possible through National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grants administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI.)
