A man was able to walk to the ambulance Wednesday night after crashing his car into a house on the north side of the city.
Emergency crews were dispatched to 1539 Eighth Avenue with a report of a one-vehicle crash with injuries at 11 p.m. The car had crashed into the porch.The destruction spanned several yards. Several witnesses at the scene said the vehicle was also driving at a high rate of speed. Terre Haute Police and Fire Department crews arrived at the scene and assisted the male driver out of the silver Mercury Sable passenger car. Neighbors said the man appeared to be impaired as he walked to the ambulance with assistance of paramedics. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Airbags in the vehicle had deployed. Witnesses at the scene said he veered off the roadway a couple blocks away from the porch, narrowly missing a large tree, and after going air born, landed into a wheelchair ramp, drove through fencing and shrubs before finally the crashing into the porch.
