Indiana Central News A winter storm warning is underway in the Terre Haute area Monday night, with heavy snowfall and icy conditions making travel treacherous. The storm is expected to bring a total snow amount of 8-12 inches across central Indiana. "The snow -covered roads, low visibility, and blowing and drifting snow -- along with cold wind chills near and below zero -- will make driving conditions dangerous," a spokesman for the U.S. National Weather Service in Indianapolis explained. City and county offices will be closed Tuesday. Meanwhile, local officials are urging residents to stay home, if possible. Emergency crews have responded to numerous weather-related accidents. Around 10 p.m., Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames said troopers from the Putnamville district responded to 22 motorists assists,13 slide offs, 20 property damage crashes and four crashes with personal injury. If you must go out, Ames offers some advice for handling the slick roads. "Reduce your speed, don’t drive distracted, turn your headlights on, and buckle up," he said. Comments are closed.
